When the pirate Henry Morgan burned the original Panama City in 1671, the Spanish rebuilt it a few kilometres away on a rocky peninsula that could be walled and defended. That second city is today's Casco Viejo, a UNESCO listed district of colonial churches, French era balconies and restored mansions facing the Pacific, with the glass towers of modern Panama rising across the bay.
Oasis Hotel occupies a building on Calle 9a Este in the San Felipe quarter, right in the middle of it. Its seven to nine suites, among them lofts and junior suites, have air conditioning, seating and dining areas, and in several cases balconies with sea or city views and kitchens. On top, a sky bar and the Italian restaurant Il Padrino look out over the bay. The Canal Museum is about three minutes away, the cathedral less than three hundred metres. Guests rate the location above nine out of ten.
